COSC offers a variety of firearms training


NON NRA Defensive Pistol Course

Master Sergeants at Arms, LLC is offering a NON NRA Defensive Pistol Course on

Saturday, June 29th at Chief Okemos Sportsman Club. Course is geared towards current CPL holders seeking to enhance marksmanship skill sets.

Instructor is NRA certified as well as former US Army Special Forces with 35 years’ experience.

Cost: $125.00 for COSC Members or Veterans and $150.00 all others. Maximum class size is eight (8). Show up time is 8:15 am with five hours of training ending at 14:00/2:00 pm (no lunch).

Training Schedule: Admin/Safety brief, dynamic shooting drills including:

fundamentals refresher, movements to neutralize threats, barricades- low and high, range from contact to 25-yard engagement, 21-foot moving target, other events time permitting.

What to Bring: Clothing appropriate for the weather, long work pants. (We will be outdoors. Training will go on rain or shine except if lightning is present.) Your carry firearm (if you’d like to bring additional pistol/revolver to try out, that’s okay). Bring 300 – 325 training rounds. A quality holster/belt rig (recommend a strong side hip holster made particularly for your handgun). Bring 3 – 4 magazines / speed loaders with belt pouch for same. Eye and Ear Protection. Water, coffee, snacks, sun screen, bug juice as you need.

COSC CPL/CCW NRA Pistol Classes for 2019

NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting class and Personal Protection Inside the Home course (the Michigan Concealed Pistol License) training package.

This program is taught by certified and insured NRA Instructors.

COST: This package is offered at a price of $125.00 for non COSC members and $75.00 for COSC members. The package includes both the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting and the NRA Personal Protection Inside the Home (CPL) Classes.

Class size is kept small (max 12) to better ensure learning and one on one instruction.

Water and Coffee will be provided, you will need to bring your own lunch and snacks. The lunch break will be on site with further discussion. There is a refrigerator and microwave available.

NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting classes will be held on:

May 4th, June 8th, July 13th, August 10th with each class being one day from 9 am – 6 pm at COSC.

This class introduces new, beginner and novice students to the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for owning, maintaining, storing and using a pistol safely. This course is pre-requisite for the NRA PPIH course. It will cover topics such as:

  • Pistol knowledge and safe gun handling and storage
  • Ammunition knowledge and the fundamentals of pistol shooting
  • Firing your first shots, improving your accuracy and how to train on your own
  • Scoring Targets, and selecting and maintaining your pistol
  • Course review, examination and training completion certificate
  • Experienced shooters will learn things in this class too, everyone does. We don’t know what we dont know.

You may bring your own pistol (preferred) with 150 rounds of ammunition or lease one from COSC plus the cost of ammunition.

It is required to pass this class before taking the Personal Protection Inside the Home Class.

NRA Personal Protection in the Home Course (Michigan CPL) will be held on:
May 11th, June 22nd, July 27th, August 24th
with each class being one day from 9 am – 6 pm at COSC.

This course will further develop the students’ ability to safely and ethically use a firearm for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding citizen’s right to self-defense.


  • Introduction to defensive shooting
  • Basic defensive pistol skills
  • Firearms and the law: Possession, ownership, and the use of deadly for Presented live by a Ml licensed attorney.
  • Strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation
  • Selecting a pistol for self-defense
  • Sport shooting activities and training opportunities
  • Course review, examination and training certificate

You may bring your own pistol (preferred) with 100 rounds of ammunition or lease one from COSC. Each passing student receives a completion certificate needed for your Ml CPL application.
